iTrans NYC Subway App Reviews

Belongs on your home screen if youre a NYer

Now that alerts work, this is back on my home screen. The most useful transit app of them all. Works great in concert with (of all things) the Apple Maps app. Im shocked that I dont really use Google Maps anymore.

Best subway app, better than Google

Ive tried a lot of different subway apps and this is easily my favorite. It has real-time service advisories and it adjusts its directions based on scheduled service changes. Lots of other nice things that other apps lack. The time estimates are much better than Google.

From the beginning . . .

As a New Yorker, this is the one I have used and grown up with. . . Alerts are invaluable.

Works underground

I have tried lots of other apps but I keep coming back to iTrans NYC because it works underground when you may not have an Internet connection. The other apps have some nice bells and whistles but none work underground which is kind of crucial! While disconnected, you do have to put in a street address rather than just a business name like you could do while connected, so its a little less convenient. Compounding this, I also have found that my "recents" list doesnt reflect searches I just made, but if I remember the first digit or two of the address it will often auto fill for me. Another thing to keep in mind is that iTrans does not offer walking directions alone, i.e. without a subway component. Youre better off just looking at the street map for that. I have noticed that the subway map needs an update. For example, the Broadway Lafayette F train / Bleecker 6 train connector has been functional for a few years now, but iTrans still tells me I have to go above ground to make that transfer. Other than these nitpicks, the interface is straightforward and works well. I use it daily!

An absolute must have..

Worst case scenario you have to wait an extra minute or two compared to what the schedules say. As a native New Yorker I totally approve !!

Used Daily for 8 Years

Out of all the NYC map apps Ive used over the years, I always return to this one. Its simple and complete.

Discard this app

Worst app ever. Times are always inaccurate.

Abandonware

Used to be good. Never gets updated. emails to support dont get answered. issues dont get fixed. Schedule changes are not reflected for months if at all. Seems a shame. Developer should sell the app to someone that is willing to at least maintain it.

was the best

ive been using this app for years now. the $4/$5 was worth every penny up to this last update. now i cant look up train info underground? i need wifi access or my data. WHY. any lines that has specific times are useless now because now when i want to click into a line it comes up as an error and lists no info or suggested time the train is to come. CHANGE THIS. PLEASE.

push alerts dont work

Push alerts for subway diversions are broken again. Look elsewhere.

Super useful.

I like that all of the alerts are posted so that youre up to date with whats going on -- construction, delays, etc. I also really like the fact that you can see the scheduled and the live/actual times the trains are running on.

Push notifications stop after iOS updates

Please fix this. Push notifications dont work after every iOS update.

Not current information!

Not always the information about the service in the stations its right. This is not the first time it happens to me and have to loose lot of time because of it. Right now, you can see the app says you can take the E train in 42st-Port Authority going uptown when the service is cancel at this station the weekends and its being in this way for two weeks already. So, pay for this when you can go to the MTA website and check it for free? Btw, I sent long time ago an e-mail about this problem to support and nobody answered to me.

Please fix push notifications... Again -_-

I have used this app for years and every time the push notifications break I get sad and sometimes I delete it... And then occasionally re-download to check if theyre fixed and sometimes they are... And the cycle goes on, and on, and on... This most recent time, I was excited to see them working when I was running 9.3 (in beta) and then they broke again in 9.3.1... This is my favorite and the absolute best NYC subway app but push notifications are a big part of what makes it so great

Failure to give push alerts

This app isnt bad but could be better if it gives push alerts again
